Montecorto, on the edge of the Sierra de Grazalema national park, was our base for the week. Our accommodation was a renovated watermill with beautiful mosiacs and artistic touches.
Today was our big mountain day – a walk in the heart of the Picos to the summit of Torre de Horcados Rojos.
Pico Jano is not part of the Picos, but promised great views of them. On the way we saw plenty of local flora and fauna too.
Today we went to visit some old friends living near Cangas de Onís on the other side of the Picos. We had a surprise in store when we were whisked off to visit a secret cave in the hills
Redo is a tiny little hamlet of perhaps ten houses or so. It lies nestled right into the eastern massif of the Picos. Our holiday apartment really delivered on the promise of “mountain views”!
Ben More Coigach sits magnificently above Ullapool, and I’ve wanted to climb it ever since 2005, when I was admiring it from Scoraig.
Slioch is a well-known munro at the south end of Loch Maree, reached from Kinlochewe.
Beinn Liath Mhor and Sgorr Ruadh are two munros reached from Glen Carron.
Last Sunday, 4th August, I headed off to Spittal of Glenshee for a 17-mile walk taking in two Munros; Glas Tulaichean and Carn an Righ.
