Hirschwieskopf hike

The Hirschwieskopf lies directly to the south of Germany’s third highest mountiain, Watzmann, and offers a great viewpoint onto the southern wall of the Watzmann.

Königssee and Obersee

Königssee, the fjord-like lake in the extreme southeast of Bavaria, is one of the areas top tourist attractions. It must attract thousands of people each day, most of whom take one of the (electric!) ferries along the lake and get out to walk and visit the restaurants or mountain huts (alms).

Salzburg

On arriving in Ruhpolding in Bayern, we decided on a quick day trip to Salzburg, over the border in Austria, as the weather was somewhat overcast and not ideally suited for hillwalking
