Hiking in New Hampshire’s White Mountains

14 October 2019 Off By nonsavant

After arriving relatively late in the evening in New Hampshire and our overnight stay at the Coos Motor Inn in Lancaster, we drove down through the incredibly scenic White Mountains. The combination of mountainous scenery and autumn colours was stunning.

I had hoped that this hike, up Mount Chocorua, wouldn’t be too busy, but I was to be sorely disappointed. The car park was full to the brim, and no wonder: The hike up to the summit takes in some waterfalls and offers many fantastic views. The summit seemed fuller than the car park, but it wasn’t too difficult to find a somewhat quieter corner for lunch.

To make a loop out of the walk, we descended to the east on the Bee Line Trail and returned to the car on the Bolles Trail. What a difference! Five minutes after leaving the summit we didn’t see a single person until reaching the car park again.

After the walk it was a short trip down to Conway and our next motel, the Scenic Inn, and a mexican meal at Cafe Noche.
