Cycle to nearby Monastry

19 June 2012 Off By nonsavant

I cycled to a monastry, Chartreuse de Valbonne, followed by a visit to the limestone rock formations on the River Cèze and the nearby village la Roque sur Cèze.

Here are some photos of the ride. Despite appearances, I really am enjoying myself! It was a long climb on the bike at that point.

Chartreuse de Valbonne is a 13th century monastry – I liked the funky yellow and black zigzag patterns on the roofs. After eating lunch in the grounds, I cycled over a hill to drop down through the small village of St Michel d’Euzet (roadside flowers and steel cross) on to the fascinating limestone formations of the River Cèze (the ‘Cascades du Sautadet’) and the scenic village of La Roque sur Cèze (which included an art display of photorealistic paintings).
