Lakes and clouds: Our attempt on Punte alle Porte

26 October 2018 Off By nonsavant

Our last day and a steep hike up past two lakes was planned. After thirty minutes of winding road up through the Restonica valley, we arrive at a large car park and the dairy shop. The shop is still open, but there’s no fee for the car park out of season.

The walk up to the first lake, Lac de Melo, is fairly easygoing, with two ladders provided at the trickier parts. The second stage up to Lac de Capitello is much steeper, with only cables to help on the stretches where hands are necessary.

We pushed on after the second lake up to the ridge, leaving the few walkers behind that had also continued on past the first lake and hoping to reach the summit of Punte alle Porte. After a long, steep scramble up a rock chute we reached the ridge. Unfortunately a lot of cloud had gathered at this altitude, so we decided not to risk it and continued the loop along the ridge and back down past the first lake.
